Record Keeping

Record Keeping is a series of prints made during a studio based performance in Cape Town, South Africa to record the artists body prior to having Top Surgery; a Double Mastectomy as a form of gender- affirming care.

 

Titles such a Bad Mother, Saved, Bind it Up, Testimony and The Blood speak to the difficulty the artist faced with making the decision. After nearly 10 years of binding their chest, which is said to only offer 1/2 their lung capacity, they reflected on their journey through black girlhood, their desire to be a parent, growing up in black Christian church and self actualization.
