I think I'll Call it Morning
Khaleb's paintings focus on the black queer figure, highlighting beauty along with elements of African folklore and surrealism. He has begun a new series of paintings of therianthropic figures that re- imagine the Atlantic Slave Trade. Half human, half creatures of the sea, these figures embody not only African diasporic historical connections to water but re- centers black queer people as both futuristic beings and something of the deep past (ie. orishas Olookun and Yemaya or the legend of the flying Africans).
